The Department of Electronics and Telecommunications (DET) is the leading research hub of Politecnico di Torino in the fields of terrestrial and space communications, electronics, measurement systems, electronic bioengineering, and mechatronics.
Our research spans the most advanced applications of next-generation microelectronics and artificial intelligence and machine learning, extending to the frontiers of quantum computing and nanotechnology for devices, antennas and innovative sensors, as well as the development of technological solutions for healthcare, transportation, space, energy, and the environment.
Its activities, recognized internationally, integrate research, education, and technology transfer, drawing on the contribution of:
• 5 members of national academies
• 20 IEEE Fellows
• highly cited researchers and/or recipients of prestigious European Research Council (ERC) funding for frontier research.
The Department is organized into research groups supported by advanced laboratories and computing infrastructures, while promoting scientific excellence, innovation, and international mobility.
DET is a key reference point for education in Electronic Engineering, Telecommunications Engineering, and Physics, offering programs ranging from bachelor's degrees to advanced master's degrees, and up to PhD studies in Electrical, Electronic and Communications Engineering, in close integration with research activities.
The Department works in close collaboration with industry and with the local community, through a governance structure that includes the Director, Executive Committee, Department Board, and operational committees.
This document will guide the Department’s actions over the coming years, with the aim of implementing an Open Architecture for Research and Education. The key objectives include:
- Implementation of an open and collaborative research framework at national and international levels, fostering the inclusion of early-career researchers and students in experimental research activities
- Promotion of scientific collaborations to strengthen attractiveness, reputation, competitiveness, research excellence, and global impact.
- Innovation, technology, and education pursued on an equal footing within an interdisciplinary environment that is attractive and closely connected with the local ecosystem
