Quantum Computer
IQM’s five-qubit quantum computer, the first to be installed in Italy, was acquired through a partnership between the LINKS Foundation, the National Institute of Metrological Research (INRiM), and Politecnico di Torino. Within this initiative, the DET contributes to research activities and the development of quantum algorithms.

The Department hosts clusters of research and service laboratories, a strategic infrastructure that supports advanced research, interdisciplinary collaboration, and technology transfer.

  • Biomedical Devices and Systems
  • Circuits and Systems, Micro-, Nano- and Quantum Electronics, IoT, and Power Electronics
  • Control Systems and Robotics
  • Metrology, Instrumentation, and Sensors
  • Networking, Mobile Communications, Navigation, Machine Learning, and Signal Processing
  • Photonic Devices, Systems, and Networks
  • RF and Microwave Systems, Antennas, Radars, and Electromagnetic Compatibility

Featured Research Projects

LuGRE

Lunar GNSS Receiver Experiment was the first experiment to demonstrate the reception and tracking of GNSS signals in cislunar space and on the lunar surface, proving the feasibility of advanced signal processing, positioning, navigation, and timing techniques to support greater autonomy in future space exploration missions.

SHIMMER

SHIMMER (Safe Hydrogen Injection Modelling and Management for European Gas Network Resilience) is a European project involving three departments of Politecnico di Torino and aimed at promoting the safe integration of hydrogen into European gas networks. Within the project, the DET develops machine-learning-based surrogate models to predict and monitor hydrogen blending in gas distribution networks.

IntelliSwarm

ERC Advanced Grant project on energy-efficient Edge AI in space, focusing on the use of a satellite swarm as a distributed imaging tool for Earth observation. The satellites will acquire images and collaborate on their reconstruction directly on board in a distributed manner at an extremely high resolution, also generating a 3D model of the scene.

FERNS

European project focused on the development of sustainable and circular electronics. The project combines eco-design principles, bio-based and renewable materials, energy-efficient manufacturing processes, and innovative co-creation approaches. Its goal is to train a new generation of researchers capable of designing electronic components and systems that are more environmentally sustainable and socially responsible.
