Electrical and Electronic Measurements

The research area falls within the field of measurements of electrical and non-electrical quantities. It concerns the study, development and application of methods, procedures and systems for measuring physical quantities, electrical and non-electrical, with reference to phenomena of interest to industry, environment, human beings, cultural heritage and information society.
The scientific activities include the design, implementation, characterization, calibration and testing of measurement systems, sensors, transducers and dedicated instrumentation. Particular attention is devoted to the modelling of measurement methods, the metrological characterization of components and systems, the evaluation of measurement uncertainty, and the metrological traceability of results.
The area also includes the development of methodologies for the acquisition, processing, interpretation and representation of measurement information, with specific reference to experimental data analysis, signal and image processing, sampling and quantization techniques, and uncertainty treatment.
The main application fields include electrical and electronic metrology, measurement instrumentation, sensors and transduction systems, measurements for quality and process control, characterization of components and systems, measurements for industry, environment, health, cultural heritage and information technologies.
