The Advisory Board performs advisory functions aimed at identifying research lines that ensure the intensification of relations with the business world. The advisory role is exercised by members designated by relevance and contiguity with the department's research topics. The activities of the Advisory Board are promoted by the coordinator in close cooperation with the technology transfer commission and the research commission.

The communication commission is responsible for organising and structuring the communication to promote the department's image as well as its activities and services both externally and internally. The PhD commission’s main purpose is to organise and coordinate the department policies supporting access and development of PhD’s. It harmonises the application of departmental policies with PhD schools and it promotes co-funding strategies for PhD scholarships allocated to students who have a tutor within the department. It assures the best integration of students within the scientific fields, those active in the department, and in the support of research activities.

The IT infrastructure commission ensures the management, development and use of all IT resources within the department. The commission is responsible for the proposal and implementation of policies related to the management and security of the IT infrastructure. The teaching laboratories commission ensures the proper functioning of the laboratories where the training activities of the courses managed by the department are carried out.
It works together with the teaching commission to acknowledge the training needs in the experimental and simulative fields. It assesses the adequacy of the available facilities, paying particular attention to the quality and accessibility of the services provided and plans their enhancement when needed. It establishes the criteria for the access to laboratory resources.

The research laboratories commission coordinates the monitoring activities of the laboratories and ensures that departmental research activities receive proper experimental support. It implements actions to improve the visibility of the laboratories both within the department and externally. It promotes the integration of the laboratories in thematic networks to improve the management of resources and stimulate development plans, defined with the research commission. It organises the management of the laboratories to facilitate tools’ sharing and collaboration between research groups. The commission coordinates actions to ensure compliance with safety regulation.

The quality commission is aiming at spreading the culture of quality within the department. It follows the principles of the national model of self-assessment, evaluation and accreditation (AVA) and manages the departmental quality assurance process in the fields of education (including PhD), research and social impact. The commission works to ensure a continuous improvement of quality and supports the Politecnico in the Research Quality Assessment (VQR) exercises.

The Open Science and publications commission proposes actions to implement the principles of Open Science within the research activities carried out by the department. It promotes actions that enhance the sharing, equity, transparency, reproducibility and re-use of every aspect of research, including research data. It carries out checks on the scientific production of lecturers and proposes measures to increase its quantity and improve quality, paying attention to the criteria of the research quality assessment.

The Safety Commission is responsible for ensuring a safe working, research, and study environment that complies with current regulations, while promoting a culture of safety among all staff and students.

Operationally, it:

identifies, assesses, and monitors risks present in laboratories and departmental spaces, including interference risks in the case of external activities;
ensures compliance with health and safety regulations;
defines and updates operating procedures, with particular attention to experimental activities;
promotes training activities for faculty members, researchers, and technical-administrative staff;
oversees the proper use of equipment and personal protective equipment (PPE);
collaborates with the University’s Prevention and Protection Service.
